To progress to Ni Dan – (2nd Dan) – the student must meet the following requirements:
Be at least sixteen years old. Those students less than sixteen years old may earn a marker on their belt for each year of service as evidenced by their attendance card.
Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency of all skills and all Kata up to and including Sho Dan Ho and Sho Dan.
Maintain a regular teaching schedule.
Hold the rank of Sho Dan for a period of no less than 2 years
Maintain a regular class schedule; meaning must train in class while not teaching.
Regularly attend the weekly Black Belt training.
Participate in and instruct at Black Belt Seminars
All Ni Dan and San Dan candidates must test for their ranking in front of a panel during a yearly exam separate from the Sho Dan-Ho and Sho Dan Black Belt seminars. All requirements must be fulfilled and validated prior to testing. Testing may result in failure. Tests may be repeated the following year.
Instruct at special training seminars (i.e. Kata, Sparring, etc.)
Assist at school sponsored events (i.e. tournaments)
Be CPR and First Aid Certified
Posses a current AAU Technical Coach or “O” rated Official certification
Be able to demonstrate AAU official flag signals and have a working knowledge of Referee signals
