December 31, 2009 started as any ordinary day except for Sensei Karen. She began preparations for her annual lock-in expecting 25 children to entertain. Her dad Joe was there to help turn WMAF into a New Year’s Party Zone! New additions included a 24 ft projection screen for the. The children began arriving at 6:30pm; once they were dropped off and the parent’s had left the evening started with board games and check-in. The party animals headed off to the dojo for old games and a few new ones Sensei had found. Of course a game of Trash and a round of Dodge Ball, followed by Wall Ball, Gator Crab Soccer, and you guessed it… Dodge Ball again. As midnight approached the dojo had been transformed into a giant movie theatre where the children were anticipating the amazing ball drop. Sensei Karen prepared the traditional New Year’s toast where the children toasted sparkling cider at the stroke 12. Since the lock-in began many years ago Sensei explains the tradition of a midnight toast to ring in the New Year with style. After the cheer and toast the children enjoyed a night full of movies and very little sleep. And it would not be over without a breakfast at iHop, so all were loaded into the vans and off to iHop it was.
All had great fun and the WMAF kids rang in another great year.
